The Foundations are the first multi-racial Motown band to hit the scene. In the late 1960s they released Build Me Up Buttercup and it topped the charts in the UK, US and Canada. Using a classic Motown style, The Foundations were masterful when it came to telling a sad tale over an upbeat tune. Build Me Up Buttercup was no different in that regard.
